Posted on May 28 2017

This happens to every climber at some point, here is a video & instruction on How to Patch Up Your Favorite Pants

  1. Iron
  2. Ironing Board (or thick blanket to iron on)
  3. Measuring Tape
  4. Scissor
  5. Iron on Patch
  6. Any Cotton Fabric Swatch about 3 x 3 inches or larger
  7. Marker

  1. Make sure your pants are clean
  2. Measure the hole of your pants
  3. Make sure the patch is large enough to fit over the hole in your pants
  4. If it is too large measure and mark the patch to the right size
  5. Cut the patch with rounded edges to prevent fraying
  6. Now place the fabric swatch inside pants, under the hole (to prevent patch from ironing through hole)
  7. Place iron on patch over the hole
  8. Follow iron heat settings that came with iron on patch
  9. Iron the patch on to the desired location
  10. Wait for it to cool 1-2 minutes
  11. Take out fabric swatch inside pant (if it sticks leave it there)
  12. Optional : For extra durability you can use a sewing machine to sew the patch around the edges
  13. Coming soon, how to use a basic sewing machine...
  14. Comment for more info

Where to Shop for Materials

In store at Michaels, Joanne's or any local craft store.

If you have time you can order online CreateforLess, Ebay and Amazon should have many of these items.

The reason we use an Iron on Patch in this video is

1. it frays less than fabric

2. it has rounded edges

3. it is easily available

4. finding and buying similar fabrics to your pants will be difficult in small quantities

5. it irons onto hard to sew spots like knees

6. the patch will stay in place if you decide to sew (no need for pins)
